If not for the little "twist" at the ending, I would have rated it higher. It held my interest and was decently written. I do like twisty endings but fhe foundation has to be laid for them throughout the book so that once you're slapped upside the head by the surprise, you think back and say, "Ohhh, I didn't pick up on that..." In this book you are supposedly inside Aubrey's head in the chapters pertaining to her. And yet there is no clue about the extent of her involvement in Josh's disappearance. I also didn't care for the very end, with the look at her life in Chicago. Aubrey is not who we thought she was and there was no clue about this. It seems to be a kind of take off on Gone Girl but didn't work as well, at least for me.
There are many unanswered questions in this book. What is the deal with Meaghan? What happens to Tyler? She writes letter upon letter, but then in the end, none of those are mentioned and she was actually a PART of it? And Chase gets the dog? Come on.. Very disappointing
As a native Nashvillian, I was super impressed with this book. The author referred to so many places that only a local would know. The book was very well written and had some fantastic turns. I listened to it while walking and then ordered the hard copy to send to my mother. Great book.
This book was a formulaic repeat of Gone Girl with flatter characters and improbable plot devices. I turned the pages hoping to be disproven, but alas, it was as I imagined. The ending has a twist, but it feels unearned and unbelievable. Not my favorite.
5 star review until the end. I gave this book a four star review because I absolutely loved it until the last chapter. This was compelling and riveting and well written until the very last chapter and epilogue when I found myself confused.My review is not because I wanted a different conclusion but because It was abrupt and felt rushed and unfinished.
As always I couldn't put this book down! I love reading J.T. Ellison. This one really surprised me at the end! I usually can at least guess what the outcome will be but this one really had me in suspense right up to the end. I prefer the Taylor Jackson series but this one was very good too. A part of me was slightly disappointed how it ends but then again it can't be the same predictable ending all the time in books so I liked it!! Looking forward to the next one.
For the most part, I enjoyed the book, but the last few chapters took the book in an entirely different direction. There was no happy ending. The characters shifted to an extreme. Josh goes to jail and Aubrey goes to a hospital for the criminally insane after all is said and done. It seems like to much information was left out between the last chapter and the epilogue. For one second, it looked like Daisy and Chase were in on it from the beginning to set Aubrey and Josh up for the money. How did it come to Chase and Aubrey getting married? The last paragraph ended to abruptly.
I'm a big fan of the Taylor series so I was excited to read this standalone. The book was pretty suspenseful all the way through until the end. I found the end anti-climatic and kind of predictable but I still enjoyed getting there.
