Paul Calter's "Squaring the Circle" is a book that represents a lifetime of the author's knowledge on a most important subject matter for any educated individual.This book is a must for anyone who wants to gain an understanding into the construction of our world. More so it is a book that every Geometry and Philosophy teacher should incorporate into their curriculum - both at the High School and University level. I cannot stress this last point enough. I use this book in my High School Geometry class - in Seattle - (as a supplement to our text book), and the students are literally "blown away" by the combination of the subject knowledge of design, architecture, art, geometry, philospohy, music theory, and mathematics. Students leave my class with impressive designs and a knowldge of their origin, philosphy, and use. This book provides a well-needed interesting and integrated curriculum for any student.Calter includes the basic lessons and explanations of a regular Geometry course in his book, but then he interweaves an integrated classical curriculum (based on deductive reasoning) rich with well written explanations and diagrams on some of the most interesting and difficult to understand subjects. Furthermore, he shows the reader how to construct many seemingly difficult and beautiful designs.Calter's book will take the student on an incredible journey through a knowledge which is gained only though Geometry, and, in the past, was only shared among the few.Once again, I urge all educators in Geometry and Philosophy to get this book, incorporate it into your curriculum, and then thank the author.
